Update Koh Samed

I stated in the book that Tok's Little Huts were undergoing renovation. After a recent trip ... the 'huts' are now all pretty fancy little triangular little houses. The price is about 1200 -2000 baht. When I was there they were somewhat desperate and offered one with full amenities for 800 baht.

Extremely valuable information: The first edition of the book stated that I had not stayed at Naga Bungalows, and since Tok's is no longer a budget accommodation I suggested someone might try Naga Bungalows as a alternative. It was the worse place I have ever stayed. We were awoken every single night by the odd drunken noise maker or a fight, I could list each occasion during the week. One night a guy was talking about his girlfriend who he had punched and was searching for in the wee hours, waking up anyone who did not drink every thirty minutes. It was the only trip in Thailand where I was happy to leave. Normally, we extend a few days. This time I wanted off the island before I lost my sanity. It is very cheap, but the rooms are mostly in trees and some are behind cement walls of the hut in front. We moved around a couple of times, but there was no good alternative. I can only recommend it people who intend to visit the bar on the beach. It is the second most popular bar around there. The only ways to sleep there is drunk. And that is what the place is basically used for, so don't expect to relax there. I heard people checking in saying ... it's a dive, but we won't be around here anyway, we'll just crash (in the wee hours). The British lady ... I won't go into it here ... she is all over the net as notoriously rude to anyone not British. On arrival she was standing behind the front desk. I asked her how much a bakery item was (They do have a pretty great restaurant with good Thai and Western) When she heard my accent she immediately said ... why don't you go ask one of the Thai staff. I wish they were all Thai because I had never been treated like that by Thai staff in Thailand. Anything more is posted by others on the net. There are not many cheap places, if any, left on that beach. The beach is great. Too bad. We will stay at Tok's and pay the extra money next time. That's it for this update.
